Charging a Tesla at a European Campsite: CEE Blue 16A vs 32A
How blue CEE sockets at campsites and marinas work with the Tesla Mobile Connector, and how to tell a 16A socket from a 32A one.
| Socket | Plug diameter | Max power | Range per hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| CEE blue 16A | 42 mm | 3.7 kW | 24 km/h |
| CEE blue 32A | 56 mm | 7.4 kW | 48 km/h |
How to tell 16A from 32A
Both are blue with three pins, but the 32A plug is visibly larger. Read the rating moulded on the socket or its cover, or measure: Tesla lists the plugs at 42 mm (16A) and 56 mm (32A) diameter. A 32A plug will not fit a 16A socket.
Campsite limits
A campsite pitch may have a blue socket but a supply limited to 6, 10 or 16A shared with other pitches. Ask reception what current is allowed and set the charge current in the car to match, so you do not trip the pitch breaker.
What LANVOLT stocks
LANVOLT currently lists the CEE blue 32A adapter. For 16A blue sockets, ask us on WhatsApp before ordering.
Safe use outdoors
Keep the plug connection off wet ground, check the socket cover closes, avoid extension reels that are not rated for continuous load, and stop if anything becomes noticeably warm.
Frequently asked questions
What adapter do I need to charge a Tesla at a campsite?
Most European campsites use blue CEE sockets. Match the adapter to the socket rating: 16A or 32A.
How fast does a Tesla charge from a blue campsite socket?
Tesla lists 3.7 kW (about 24 km/h) on 16A and 7.4 kW (about 48 km/h) on 32A; the site's own limit may be lower.
Is a red CEE socket the same?
No. Red CEE sockets are three-phase industrial outlets with different pins. See our guide to Schuko, CEE blue and CEE red.
